The law in India which crimminlizes homosexuality is almost word for word the same law Great Britain had when they ruled India. The Indian government copied many British laws for the Indian legal code.
The law does not pertain to women because at the time the law was created women had no value so it didn’t matter what they did. They were to be disciplined by male relatives for disgracing the family. Sometimes in rare cases this would lead to execution of the woman by family members.
Presently the laws only use is by Indian police officers to extort promenade gays.
So in effect the laws only use if to create extra income for corrupt officials in the government.
These laws are based on ignorance and intolerance of the local populations. Just recently a large group of Indian public figures and intellectuals have petitioned the government to do away with the law known as Section 337 the government is studying the matter and the law will be removed from the books in 2007.

Nothing wrong being gay I'm a bisexual Indian male find nothing wrong in relation with a guy. Law in India does not permit unnatural sex but it comes into act if there is any complaint made against unnatural sex if you do it in close door without making it public no one cares what you are doing. Just enjoy as you want .

i wager is basically because there is too many those with close mentality. i'm not gay and that i love women human beings yet, I have not some thing antagonistic to gay, lesbian. in which e book is written that guy has to bypass with women human beings basically and viceversa? Who and what noice supply a gay/lesbian to human beings? In what they are differnt from us? not some thing they have eyes, hand, mind and each little thing else we do have. we favor to imagine out of the field and be extra cutting-edge, versatile, and open minded. i'm Italian and that i go away in india from the previous 3 years, i love this u . s . yet i extremely imagine that in case like the homossesuality india has to develop up somewhat extra. Bye take care

Look you can't help being gay. You just love who you love. As for it being illegal in India; Every country has started out by banning homosexual relationships and it takes time and a lot of fighting to get equal rights. But look at America we started out saying no gay relationships, then it went to okay you can have one but no marriage. Now some states( very few) do allow marriage. I think that within our life time most state will allow homosexuals to marry. You either have to wait for India to become more accepting, fight for it, hide it or leave the country and go be yourself some where else.

India is a very conservative country when it comes to homosexuality - unfortunately. Please be not disencouraged. I am sure that the laws will change over time and that you will be able to be open and free about your feelings. All the best.

I have read that Indian Culture is so strict about these situations. Maybe you should think about moving to another country. Good Luck!
