The amount of memory available depends on the programs being run at each time.
You should close as many programs as you can before loading up the RPGs to give them as much memory space as possible. (and they eat up a lot)
When you close the RPGs again they should free up the memory they used but it may take a few minutes.

If the lag persists, there are a lot of small programs you can get that defragment and release memory. You should find a handful just by googling.

Simply quit all other applications you may not be using, like calculator, a web browser, etc. The activity monitor on a Mac and the process window (ctrl+alt+del) on a PC will tell you what programs are running and how much memory they're consuming.

Assuming your operating system is windows 2000 (if XP you can also do that it’s similar)

Right click "My computer" > Properties > Performance Options.

In the Virtual Memory section> click the "change..." button set the Virtual Memory to 500 (if you max is say 600) click in Set (don't forget to click on set)

Click on start > run
Type %temp% click ok/Enter

Select all and delete (they all are temp files)

Start> programs> accessories> system tools> desk cleanup

Start> programs> accessories> system tools> desk defragmenter

Do a disk cleanup and disk defrag. Start>all programs>accessories>system tools>Disk Cleanup. Follow the same path and do a disk defrag.

The prgogram below will help as well. I run it everytime I log off with no problems.
