It all began back in the sixties. Johnson was so "left" that society as a whole took stance against his political follies. With the protest against Vietnam and the acceptance of mind altering drugs, the "No L" actually meant No LSD. The government started the NOEL program in hopes of returning America to the conformist society of the fifties. Trying to stop the revolution was like trying to stop the tide... Man that was deep. Can't believe I made all that up... Must be all the LSD

Yeah it says no el so why would it have an L? Beats me! A friend of mine had these letters that spelled out NOEL and would always arrange it to say ELNO...

Because backwards NOEL spells LEON. If you took out the L, it would spell EON. That's just too time intensive.
