Yes. It was Contact by Carl Sagan. The book is fiction and I think Sagan was much better at non-fiction. However the book contained ideas that helped me break free of what I now recognize as a cult. And Contact led me to The Demon-haunted World (non-fiction by Sagan) which really fleshed out the argument for scientific skepticism.

P.S. As is often the case, watching the movie is no substitute for reading the book.

Yes, "Atlas Shrugged" by Ayn Rand. It is simply the most amazing book, listed as the most controversial ever in our time, second only to the Bible. I've never seen anybody read it with lukewarm feelings- you will either love it to death or hate it with a vile vengeance.

For me (and others, even if they're the ones who detest its message), it has helped focus in on what your life is all about, what it should be about, and so on. It gives you a perspective on the world, and will definitely make you question your philosophy of life. Plus, it's just a really good story.

Definitely give it a read.

A book that I read over 20 years ago - in my first marriage my husband was abusive. I read a book called Women's Room by Marilyn French. This book gave me the courage to stand up for my 2 sons and myself and leave him and not remain sufficated in a dangerous situation.

Miracle on 49th Street. It's about this girl who's mother died.
And she finds out that her dad is the famous basketball player, Josh Cameron. This book changed my life because, it showed
me that you can do anything if you set your mind and heart to it.
It also improved my basketball skills.
