Usually it is a topic for computer software design but it can also be for other things you interact with.

Interface is the part the user deals with. Usability is how easy it is to get stuff done.

As an example, a good interface is where you can find the function - say "print" - easily. A bad interface is where you hunt all over and you still can't find the #*(&$ print button!!

A usable product is one that makes it easy for you to accomplish a task. A usable print function is you press the button and it prints. A poorly usable one is where you have to go through six different steps and it still won't print for you.

Usually companies making major products will hold usability tests where they bring regular people in, introduce them to the product, and have them perform certain tasks. They make notes on how easy or hard it was for them to figure out how to do it, what problems they ran into, and what might need to change, if anything, in the product, to make it more understandable or usable. That's interface and usability testing.
