The Nausicaa Viz Books, how are they related to the movie?

I watched the movie and i liked it alot. I heard about there being books, but i don't know if they are what i think. The books 1-7, are they continuations of the storyline, or does the movie cover all 7 books at once?
Has anyone read those books?
