as much as I'd hate to say it i think it has lost alot more than that . Christmas when i was a kid was so much doiffrent things lately in the past few years especially have been horrible all christmas is now is spending money and making people hppy with objects. I wouldn't care if I got one single thing on Christmas as long as I had my family sometimes thats all people have . I also think people should really thik about it most family christmas now parents see there kids to open the presents then they are gona for the rest of the day I think people should realize if you have young children think about it the way things have been in the world lately when they are teenagers its things like this there subconsius mind will remember this is what tey will grow in. Christmas doesn't mean presents , for those of you that are religous it mean faith, hope and love for htose of ou that are nto it should still carry the same mean in g if not for religion at least for you families faith that the next day will be even bette rhope that you will all stay this close as you are at christmas every day of the year and unconditional love that your family n needs to know that you have for mthem. i'm only 21 and things scare me when I think about how it will b e in 20 years when the baby you hold or the child you sing to every night will be the people that will be guiding this world and its up to us to guide them first.

To ask that question one would have to be under the assumption that Christmas has it's origins in Christianity. However, Roman officials decided on December 25th as the date for Christmas because they were trying to convert their heavily Pagan nation to the religion. The Pagan's Mid-Winter festival, Saturnalia, was held at this time of the year. In order to lure them over, many holidays that are now associated with Christianity were decided by the dates of corresponding Pagan holidays and festivals.
Christmas was more like Mardi Gras than the holiday we know today up until as late as the late 19th century. Yes, that's right, Mardi Gras! In England, during the 17th century, Protestants had taken over the country. Being very religiously strict they actually outlawed Christmas for it's vulgarity. Of course the people wanted their celebration so they in turn reinstated the Monarchy.
In the United States, after the Revolutionary War, anything English as shunned. Therefore Christmas was reinvented. It was decided the holiday would be about family and togetherness rather than raucous partying.
The Christmas tree also has it's roots in Pagan culture. Evidence of "Christmas" trees date back as far as Egypt. Santa Claus in his modern form was also only recently invented. In the 1940's he was revamped as the jolly old man we all know. Actually this was done by advertising agencies and stores of the time in order to help sell merchandise. Before that, Santa was more in line with the partying ideology of the Pagan Christmas. In fact, Santa's image evolved from a Pagan gnome like creature. Very much unlike what we know today.

Commercialization has managed to ruin most of the traditional celebrations.
You'll notice that the brain-washing of the children is where the most effort is expended.
I saw a commercial on the boob-tube last night showing some really manic kid screaming over some piece of junk in a box (looked like some perverted family home video) as the pitchman says "Remember when dreams really did come true?"
Must have been put together by people who think they can buy the love of their children with junk.
I think it was an ad for some automobile. It was sickening, showed very plainly what the Chamber-pot of Commerce has done to our holidays, and that the brain-washing of the children is expected to carry over into some retarded adulthood.
I guess my answer must be yes.

I believe Christmas has losts its meaning to alot of people. I was in the mall yesterday with friends and its amazing conversations you hear about 7 year olds wanting a labtop. I was raised that Christmas is not about the presents and not about the money. Its about giving to others that need it. I askes my neices what there wearing the church Christmas day and they told me that their not going because they want to play with there presents. I blame the parents for not even teaching the kids about the true meaning of Christmas!

Christmas has lost all meaning unless you are in retail. The funny part is you'll get 20 answers agreeing with you and not a damn one of the people that answered will do anything about it when they get off line. as a matter of fact one person has already questioned if anything can be done.

No, it has not.
But the religious aspect of Christmas is hiding behind Santa Claus and you have to know where to look for it. It's there. It's pure and beautiful as ever, but it has nothing whatsoever to do with your credit card or those lights or the tree...

It's sad, but yes. On the bright side, however, I am glad that we aren't limited to Christmas when it comes to celebrating Christ's birth:-)
And whoever says Christmas is a pagan religion, it never was. Many of the "rituals" regarding Christmas did, in fact, come from pagans, such as having a Christmas tree in the house. However, it's quite safe to say that pagans did not, in fact, celebrate Christ's birth.

No it has not, Christmas is the only time in the year that "any" people make, cook, feel at least "watch" or think of anything really clean and good, what is our "childrens", and they are the future of the humanity....

christmas is a sin. it should never have had christian meaning.
the christmas tree is part of the PAGAN yule celebration of winter (winter meant the end of one cycle and the begening of the next)
the burning of the yule log again from yule
Pagan religion is a sin in the eyes of god because it worships gods othen then him sound familliar "thou shalt not have any other god over me" (i may have said ti wrong but you get the idea)
christmas isnt Jesus's real birthday anyway
christmas only became about christ because of the psychotic christians of old times killing pagans if they did not convert (sounds like a holocaust style massacre to me) the pagans who loved their religion and their ways very very much decided to hold their ceremioneis in winter (end) and spring (rebirth/fertility) but shroud them in chirstian lies thus creating christmas and easter.
as for easter. the easter bunny has nothing to do with jesus but it has everything to do with the pagan celebration of life rebirth new cycle and fertility. rabbits are notorius for having babies and lots of them. thats why the pagans used them as a symbol for fertility of the women in the tribe and the land in which they cultavated. but the christians ha dot want to kill them so they moved their holiday a few days back inorder to celebrate it on the day "jesus was ressurected" so they could avoid prosicution.
im sorry if i spelled some stuff wrong im typing fast
but that is why chirstmas is losing its religious meaning because it never had a strong one to being with and people are just soo ******* commercial now adays they forgot even the orignal meaning of yule
