IB is not necessary to get into a good college. However, if your school offers advanced courses such as IB and AP, and you don't take them, it will negatively affect their decision to accept you or not. I was in IB until I switched to a small private school freshman year that doesn't offer IB, or any advanced courses. I got in to the college of my choice, got a good scholarship, and now I can hopefully get the full scholarship. IB is never "necessary", but it can help you.

And why would you have to take summer school if you're in IB next year? The classes are challenging, but just put your mind to it and show some effort and you should do fine.

IB Physics isn't fundamental for institution. Some stage of prime college physics is incredibly advocated should you wish a profession in any form of technological know-how. Expect any physics elegance to make use of plenty of math.
