Oh thumbs up for you!!!!! I answer any question that begins by misusing the word lose, just so I can explain the correct usage. After all, there's nothing worse than seeing a "Born to Loose" tattoo. Anyway, thanks for bringing up the subject!

You are talking about two words here. Lose means to misplace something or to not win in a game or contest. Loose refers to a cindition, as in your shoe lace is loose, or a loose fitting dress. Loose is not a mispelling, but it may be misused.

I think what makes the spelling of this word difficult is that the OO sound generally makes the sound oo as in boo. Unfortunately, in the word lose..it sounds like an oo sound!
