yes it's a sport a very dangerous one. You have girls flying in the air and boys and girls that catch them if they drop them they can get hurt very badly. They also have to be very fit to base the girls they are throwing in the air, and they have to be flexible and be able to do flips and jumps. I would like to see a basketball player do the things cheerleaders do all they do is run up and down the floor and bounce a ball.

There is no compettion ordinariliy, and there are no points scored per cheer. I don't think it's technically a sport, because it lacks these factors. It's a generally worthwhile activity in it's own right, however, like dancing, which people also don't call a "sport."

Look, I sense that there's a more serious issue here...a belief that girls actually feel slighted that it's not considered a "sport," as though this is somehow "unfair." That's a totally foolish line of reasoning or belief, and you need to get over it. That's really the main problem here, as I see it.

I think that cheerleading needs to be officially declared as a non-sport, and it's time to move on. If you want to say that you're into sports, go out for basketball.

I'm even beginning to suspect that there's a selfish element here that has to do with scholarships, and deriving something from cheerleading be called a "sport." I'm beginning to like the sound of this less and less. GET OVER IT!

Taken from Wiki: Sport is a physical activity that is governed by a set of rules or customs and often engaged in competitively.

The last time I checked cheerleading had all of those. So, I say yes, it is a sport.

I think it is. You guys practice, work hard, need hand-eye coordination for doing stunts, you're physically active. It's definately a sport.
