If your egg got fertilized for example yesterday...wouldnt the pregnanacy test show positive either way in just a couple of days??
Is there an accurate way to know what day that egg got fertilized?

After fertilization occurs, it takes several days for the fertilized egg to get implanted in the uterus. Only then hormone secretion starts, and those are the hormones that pregnancy tests detect in urine.
Actually there are over the counter pregnancy tests (for example, "First Response"), which detect pregnancy even before the missed period, virtually 5-7 days after fertilization occurs.

I'm not sure that there is a 100% accurate way of telling when your egg was fertilized. Your due date is calculated from the first day of your last period - 3 months + 7 days. For example: say the first day of your last period was 12/01/2006. Your due date would be 9/08/2007. I think by using the first day of your last period they can make a pretty good guess as to when your egg was actually fertilized if your cycles are normal.

There is no accurate way to know the exact date of fertilization. The only way to know if you're pregnant is to wait for enough HCG to be in your body to show up on the pregnancy test, that's why you have to wait so long.

no bc it takes time for the embryo to implant into the uterus! once it has been implanted is when the pregnancy hormone hcg starts to develop
