We own a 2000 MVP, and the throttle is sticky when taking off from a stop, making it lurch because you have to press the pedal so hard... It only does it when taking off, throttle is fine when at road speed... I thought it may be a dry throttle cable, but I disconnected it and manually operated the butterfly, and the problem seems to be with the injection butterfly its self... I believe all it really needs is lubrication at the pivot points, but am wary to spray WD into the intake, there are what appear to be sensors close by, and do not want to foul them with lube... Is this a typical problem with this model ??? Is there a service bulletin that addresses this particular problem ??? I would appreciate any advice!!!!!

Inspect the throttle body and plate closely for signs of deposits. Coking is notorious for this sort of thing.

with the year, make, model, VIN, engine etc. of the vehicle and perform a search related to your issue.

I wish I could tell the world that WD-40 is not a lubricant. It's basically canned kerosene, which is good for freeing rusty parts.

There are specially designed air intake cleaners that will knock some of the carbon off the area around the throttle plate without damaging the TPS or air mass meter. Throttle plates are sometimes the culprit, but 95% percent of the time, the cable causes this problem. The cable shouldn't cost more than $50, and it's a simple installation to do yourself. Give it a shot.

what u have is carbon build up around the throttle plate in the intake. u can have the shop clean the throttle body but they will charge an arm and a leg.

u can also go get a can of throttle body cleaner from the auto parts store and go home and unscrew the clamp that holds the air cleaner to the main part of the engine and spray the cleaner on the throttle plate while you work the plate back and forth while you spray. if the carbon build up is really bad u may need to take a CLEAN rag and spray it with the cleaner and wipe the inside of the throttle body around the throttle plate.
