My son has Aspbergers. When his dad was on strike duty as a security guard the plant was in lock down so he couldn't come home. I explained it to Michael & thought he understood until his teacher called & asked if there was any way she could help. I didn't know what she was talking about. Then I found out each child was asked what their parent did for a living. She said Michael stood up & told everyone his dad was locked up. Everyone still teases us about that.

To the person who answered above...there are different levels of severity in Autism. Some Autistics do not communicate at all and yet there are others with less severe cases that can act almost normal....Besides, don't you think the woman KNOWS her son has autism if she said he does....geeze.

My Lil sis has autism spectrum disorder as well and is very attuned to the feelings of EVERYTHING around her. About the cutest thing she ever did was INSIST my mom take her teddy bear to the doctor when he lost an eye, lol. She was so sincere and it was one of the sweetest things I've ever seen.

Good luck with your son. My mom always used to say that my lil sister wasn't "different", that she was blessed to have a unique perspective on the world.

I've no autistic child, but an autistic cousin. He has a remarkable ability for being able to place the date of any event when he sees it again, in everything from video to photograph, as long as he can see some part of it that he saw when he was there! It's amazing. I can't even remember what I had for lunch yesterday.

My 10 year old niece is not verbal so we are talking about a totally different level.

At a Halloween carnival, one of the booths had a "toilet toss" instead of a ring toss. They had an actual toilet with rolls of toilet paper the kids were supposed to toss into the toilet. Arianna WOULD NOT! She would take the rolls & stack them by the toilet. Then she stood in front of the toilet & started to pull her pants down!!! I stopped her in time, thankfully.

My daughter is not autistic but as a teacher I have worked with several.

My daughter's cutest comment was when she was five, she asked where the dead whales were at Sea World. (She meant the killer whales or orcas.)
