I have a black strapless dress but Im unsure of what kind of necklace should I go with...I have a long purple necklace which requires me to turn it 3 rounds around my neck...is it too chunky?

I would wear a diamond choker- like a diamond "tennis bracelet" but about an inch thick, nice and tight around your throat. Should look stunning with black! Wearing purple will make it look less dressy.

I was watching a make-over show on what not to wear, and the fashion 'guru' said that a strapless dress always looks best without a necklace.

I think that drop earrings would look amazing. something simple and elegant, maybe a chain with a diamond or pearl at the end. and no necklace.

You also may want to consider a bit of shimmer powder on your collerbone, the light will bounce off for a nice effect. Don't use too much though, a little goes a long way.

And if you can, wear your hair up. You will look like a movie star!

Is your necklace like a long pearl shaped one? If so, I love the idea of the chunkiness of it. Strapless dresses usually look awesome with a necklace centerpiece. Black is such a great color for things like that too! If you stick with the purple necklace, I would swipe some purple eyeshadow across your eyes just to coordinate it a little. Also, if you wanted to make more of a bold statement, Claire's has some really cute inexpensive strands in red that I think would make your dress pop. A red lipstick to go with it would make you sizzle! Have a great time whatever you do!

The purple necklace sounds fine, but I'd also recommend a plain silver chain with a single pearl or gem hanging from it. Stunning, but not overdone.

Ugh I wouldn't go for a long necklace
I like the short ones, you know tiffany necklaces? They're like chockers, but they're not. They hang right on your collar bones.
I think that'd be a lot nicer. Long necklaces will take away from the dress and you!

No i think that would look perfect! My cousin did something like that for her prom last year and she got awarded best dressed there! I dont kno if they will do that at your prom but If they do I bet you will win best dressed! You can also make ur necklace into a choker. that will look really cute! =]

yes that purple necklace is too chunky, I would suggest something silver, like with diamonds (possibly fake ones)

A nice silver necklace might be nice, but I think the purple one might also be nice! I'd stick with the purple one to save money. :)

yeah probably. you dont want to much around the neck with strapless dresses..something simple and classy is really sexy...it draws more positive attention to that area....

you definitely want something "choker" length. No longer. Chunky can be okay, but if you're going for a really feminine look, i'd get something dainty.
