The xbox360 is better in that its hardware is far superior. However, you should really think about what type of games you want. PS2 has more games since it has been out longer; however, it will not be getting as many new games because people buy games for the most modern system, not the old one.
Xbox has a history of making shooter games. PS2 has a history of making Japan-style role playing games. The 360 is getting more diverse in its types of games. Also, xbox has a better online system.
Personally, I'd go with the 360. They don't burn out much anymore and when they do, the microsoft people are amazingly helpful and friendly. It really isn't a big deal.
Regarding a previous post, I don't see how microsoft stole any idea from sony. Neither sony nor mircosoft were the first to make a game console. Besides, people don't complain that there are several car manufactures or any other product. Honestly, lately I would have to say that Microsoft has been a much more honest and customer friendly company than Sony. Sony has broken a lot of promises lately.

it depends on what you like to play. I really like RPG's, so I'm stick with the PS2, and will get a PS3 in a while when the system improves. There are also amazingly good games still coming out for thte PS2: Okami, Final Fantasy 12, Bully, Vice and Liberty City Stories from Grand Theft Auto, and God of War 2.
The XBox 360 doesn't have RPGs that I am interested in, but has great first person shooters and sports games. So it's up to you!

Tho the 360 is new and better, and i mean a lot better, i prefer the ps2 because it doesnt burn out like the 360 as much

Definitely PS2. X-Box 360 is a shameless plagiarism by a money-hungry American giant, Microsoft. By the way, I like most of Microsoft's products. They have valuable contributions in the world of computing. However, creation of X-Box series by completely stealing a genuine idea created by Sony was morally one of worst decisions of the company.

I think u meant to say Ps3. I would at this point opt for the 360, ! year ahead so the bugs in software / hardware have been sorted out. Right now the games coming out are exceptional good for the system and in my personal oponion. Microsoft has done wonders to their online xbox live system, and i doubt that sony or nintendo can rival it
