Ok, I posted a question a little while back that my laptops hard drive is failing, now I don't think it's a hard drive problem. It is a Compaq Presario V5000 btw. Ok, on to the problem. I think there is something with my mouse or pointing device, I got a new mouse the other day and it works fine, I think the problem is coming from the touch pad, is there any way I can disable it, I couldn't find how to in the control panel? It is going crazy having a mind of its own, lol. It keeps on right clicking itself and popping up windows that i'm not doing. I have all kinds of stuff on my favorites that I didn't add to it, and it is cancelling my messages I am writing, it usually waits til I have typed everything and then goes crazy and exits. Any advice helps, the computer is only 4 months old.

It's not a virus, touchpads fail all the time.

Go into control panel, disable it, and use a minimouse.

That can't be a virus; some touch pads can simply be defective. My touchpad begins to move on it's own sometimes, and I tap it three times, which resets it. It's a Dell, though, so I don't know if that solution will work for you. Honestly, the only thing to do beyond that is ask a professional at a store. I'm sure that they know better than all us Yahoo answers idiots. Luckily, you are probably still under a warranty and it won't cost you anything.

sounds to me more like a virus as well, but if you want to disable the touchpad to see if that helps, generally it's in your system tray I think. I don't have a compaq so I can't say for sure, but I would check down by the clock for something that says TouchPad, or something Compaq related possibly. That's how mine works, but like I said, I don't have a Compaq laptop, I have a Toshiba.

Good luck

Bring it back to the place where you bought it and have them check it out. It's an abnormal behavior and they may have to replace parts of it or the whole thing.
