You can get decent Mexican-made Strats for under $600. You can find Gibsons too. Don't buy Japanese Strats. Save another $400 and buy a US-made Strat or Les Paul.

If you have limited finances, the best place to look for an electric guitar is the pawn shop. You have to know a little bit about guitars; if you don't know someone who is knowledgeable about guitars to take with you, do some reading and visit some web sites before you decide.

Also you can find great deals in your local newspaper classifieds. This will involve some traveling around. You SHOULD in theory be able to buy a great guitar for $600 or less either in a pawn shop or out of the classifieds. There are certain times of year when it's best to start your search-- this time of year is not good because people raise prices (Christmas). Wait until after the first of the year or until just before school is out-- lots of college students will be selling off their stuff so they can take a vacation.

I hope this was helpful!

I have an Ibanez GSA 60 that cost me around $160 brand new with no flaws and sounds beautiful. I also have a Jackson Dinky 2 that sounds wonderful and in great condition that I bought for around $350 brand new. Both are very high quality guitars but Im just giving you an Idea. There are plenty more cheap high quality guitars out there but just do a little research. Have a great day.

Depends how serious you are about playing, if you are in a band and play gigs you need a nice looking guitar like a gibson les paul which i think you can get quite cheap. There is no point in having a good guitar if you haven't got a good amp i reccommend marshall amps. Remember having a nice expensive guitar doesn't make you instantly Jimi hendrix you need to practice

ones at the pawn shop,

spend like $150 for the guitar and amp, distortion built in, so no need for the extra box and the expense of it. If you get a pig amp you can bring it outside even in the rain.

get a used fender eric clapton model called "blackie at your nearby pawn shop. but i am a psychic and sense that you lack neither the ability nor determination to become a decent guirtarist. therefore, it would be far bettter to donate that money to either you neighbor church or temple or donate it to the families of the million or so dead iraqis. contact me and i will give you the web location. forget the vanity and cravings. you are intended for other endeavors. not guitar.
