Social Security Death Index, available through Ancestry.com and other sources, will even give you the SSN if they're deceased.

In case they're alive, try www.zabasearch.com, I've had good luck with that one.

PS, there is no truth to the rumour that living in Texas is equivalent to being deceased.

I'm not from Texas, but they should have some type of state office of vital statistics that could give you that information. If you've exhausted all possibilities, then your last resport could be a private investigator, but they're expensive. Best of luck to you.
