Why does iTunes require your credit card info to create an account? DOes it cost money to get an account?

I don't think it cost money to get a account. And If it did than it wouldn't cost that much. Because that happened to me, It ask my credit card #, and it wouldn't let me purchase any songs, and when I did enter my info, everthing was back to normal, and I could purchase songs.
But I just think that It's just to update you, or something like that

It doesn't cost money to get an account. But the process of downloading is very simple. You just click buy song when you want a song to go into your library. If you are not going to buy the music, you don't really need an account. They also have free downloads sometimes and I'm sure they only want to give the free downloads to customers who actually buy music from them.

It doesn't cost money to get an account, they are completely free. You need a credit card linked to it so that if you do buy songs it'll come out of that.

If you are being asked for Credit Card info then you are not just getting the "free" I tunes but are signing up for premium service

no the credit card is used to make purchases but be warned that i tunes has a lot of errors in the store and I can tell you this from personal experience and they very user unfriendly and have horrible customer service and support.

No but you have to pay for the songs you download...it requires immediate payment.
