Are they nervous?
Is it because of poor judgement?
Lack of firsthand knowledge of prizes?
Lack of focus and concentration?
Do they say the wrong things at the wrong time?
Or, is it because of bad luck?

What advice would you give your friends, when they have a chance to win a car, or a trip on The Price is Right?

All of the reasons you gave above EXCEPT "bad luck."

There is no bad luck - just not enough preparation (as far as game shows are concerned - smile).

The advice I would give to ANYONE who is planning to go on those game shows is to:

1. Do your pricing homework BEFOREHAND.
Don't count on prices in YOUR area to gauge retail prices. They may vary greatly. Find out where the show gets their information and then base your prices on THAT location.

2. Remain CALM.
In the hub-bub of a screaming audience, your expected response time, and general stress for being on television, remaining calm will greatly aid in your winning the prize. (But that's not what the network producers want to hear - they make a living on squealing, jumping and confused contestants - smile)

3. Stay FOCUSED.
Stop envisioning yourself behind the wheel of that new car; you haven't won it yet. Or don't fantasize about that dream vacation during the show - you don't have the tickets yet. Keep your mind focused on the objective: to WIN the prize. Then, after you DO, you'll be able to take your imagination to the limit!

Good luck to you, my friend, and thanks for posting!

I know a guy who made it on there but, he didn't make it past the first game. I think alot of people just don't have the pricing knowledge, I have seen people miss prices by a long shot, you wonder if they have ever been shopping before in their lives, alot of people may just be there for the experience.

I would defiantly say on the car to go a little cheaper than what you initially would think, alot of times on that show the cars are a minimal package.

Trip, go higher than you would initially think usually around 5000 is the price for a trip, but it varies, due to the location.

because they are sleepy and tired. my husband and i actually went to a taping a couple of times. you have to arrive at the CBS studios at 5 in the morning. we waited in line for 2 hours before they finally opened the gate. once inside they counted off 175 people. those 175 were guarenteed an entrace, the rest would be extra. everyday at least 500 or more people would show up. once you had a number, you where sent to a line where the show's producer would ask you simple questions like your name, age, and occupation, and then ask you to do your best scream or surpise face. taping did not begin unitl 1300. so once inside at 1300. you wait another hour maybe two for them to finish setting up the stage and hearing the annouceer tell you how que cards worked. it was a draingin experince, i was on there. but at leat i walked out with the car.
