Did we have better generals back in WW2? Better Allies? More troops? Better strategies? Better leaders in Washington DC? Were the Nazis and Japanese inferior soldiers compared to the insurgents in Iraq?

US won WW2 because they got almost no help from anyone in the Pacific and WW2 couldn't have been won if Japan hadn't been defeated by the US & if the US hadn't supplied Russia & Britain they'd be speaking German right now. Plus the US entered the war in 1942 and it ended in 1945. That is 3 YEARS.

We had a President that listened to his generals and military leaders in WWII instead of an inbred drunken fool. That is just a start.

Roosevelt had a plan of attack against the Axis Powers, then he had a plan to occupy and rebuild Europe after wards. Bush hasn't even got a clue about Iraq, much less a plan to "stay the course" with.

As for outside the president; our generals today were taught by the WWII generals, so they are at least just as good as the original. Our Allies are the same, so again just as good. The enemy troops were better trained than the Iraq guerillas ever were.

So in the end it comes down to presidential leadership. In WWII we had it today we have a drunken coke-head idiot.

Back then (During WWII), nearly the entire nation was behind the war effort. The military went into the war with an overwhelming force. The planning for the war and it's execution was conducted in a manner that used PROVEN military strategy. And the most important, WE FOUGHT AN ENEMY THAT DID SOMETHING TO US!

The current administration went into Iraq with no plan, an underwhelming force, the worst defense secretary in history, a president that took us there for the wrong reason a Enemy WE TRAINED DURING THE IRAN, IRAQ war on guerrilla warfare and an enemy we thought would be a bunch of punks. The Executive branch forgot we gave the enemy all the tools we trained them to use and our know freaked out because we don't have a plan to counter our own training!

in WWII, the US had good cause to fight, and other countries had been fighting the war for years before we joined. In Iraq, we have made excuse after excuse to be there and stay. Also, no one is helping us; and with good reason.

As for the Nazis and Japanese being inferior soldiers, in a way they were. Every minute we spend in Iraq, we convince more and more people of what the insurgents are telling them: the US is the invader, and we should fight them. So yes, the Iraqis are probably more motivated and they are constantly aquiring new members.

there is no way any one can run a war in Iraq which is 1000s of miles away from their office in Washington , Bush tried it and has failed , Carter , tried and he made just as bad of a mess as Bush has,not either one had any practical knowledge of military tactics nor did either one have any advisers that had the experience, but, both wanted every one to know who is in charge, President Reagan had the sense to tell is generals to get the Job did then call him when they were finished,he was successful, why the hell can't Bush do the same , the generals know how to fight and the best method of using their men , If Bush would tell his generals to do the job and get it done untie "their hands" we could be out of Iraq in less than 6 months victoriously

The use of a couple of nuclear weapons probably did the job then. Ask the Japanese!! Of course rather than just wiping out huge cities with a nuclear bomb they are taking the longer route round it... were they to try that in Iraq then other Arab/Muslim countries would almost certainly intervenve!

The allies won the war! For many reasons. We are fighting a guerilla war now, not a trench war!
