I dont do it myself, obviously, but i see nothing wrong with it. the internet was designed to join communities the world over, what about years ago when you were shopping with your mates you wouldnt all buy the same CD would you? no, one would buy and the other would make a copy, simple, nobody made any hooha about that did they? it is exactly what it says on the tin, file SHARING. its not immoral, sending troops to an illegal war is immoral, religions who cover up abuse is immoral, governments who lie to their servants is immoral.
whens the new james bond film on?

Flashback to the early 90's. Was it immoral to make a mix tape off the radio? Was it immoral to make a copy of a tape to give out to your friends? I don't think so. Just because it's online now doesn't mean it's immoral. People have been sharing music for years.

As you asked the question, "Is file sharing immoral" the answer is obviously no. Inherently, there is nothing wrong with the technology. It is only when it is used to distribute files to which the sharer does not hold the copyright does it become an issue.

I think downloading music or giving homemade cd's is great. If I hear a good song I'm gonna get the bands cd anyway and if I really like it I'll get all their stuff. Bands make their real money off of touring anyway. As far as movies go I can see why it might be objectionable to bootleg them. I record things of TV but don't make it a point to bootleg movies...

If the music/films/files are offered at no cost to the consumer, I don't see it as a problem to download them. If they're not free but being downloaded illegally, then it's obviously a problem. If people can get away with it, they're going to do it.......human nature.

I actually pay for my downloaded music. People justify their downloads by saying that the musicians earn enough. In essence: They are rich, so let's take everything we can from them. If a person creates something, then they have every right to earn money from it, regardless if it makes the rich or not.
I have no envy of the rich, and know that a lot of problems are created with wealth that I would never want to have. If I have the money to pay for the music, I pay for it. If I don't have the money, then I don't download.
Someday, you might invent something, write something, say something original, do you want someone else to take it from you for free?

I don't do it because I am a lawyer and it's not worth the risk, however little, to me. That said, I don't necessarily consider it immoral. Morality and law do not always go hand in hand.

I hate the word sharing. Its wrong.
I had a friend over once and she said "Ooooh, you have the new Yanni CD. Can we listen to it?"
I said "Buy your own copy, @##$#@er. He worked hard for his money."
You should never share music. That is NOT why the artists are in the business.
