does anyone know what () mean when reading guitar tabs

The brackets mean that the note is optional, usually because it sounds good there, but just too difficult for most to achieve well. Enjoy!

If you're referring to the 0's on the Here Comes The Sun tab, they're open strings (ie. they're not fretted) - not a particularly good tab incidentally - should be played on 9th fret, capo'd on the 7th !
