When you are trying to shop for someone that you think has everything, you have to think out of the box and away from material items. Get them tickets to an event. Take them to a sporting event, or a concert. Take them on a day trip somewhere. Think about the memories he will have from actually doing something with you rather than getting something material that will eventually wear out and be thrown away.
Some of the greatest gifts I have recieved were activities with people, not material items.

Maybe what he needs is not another toy. Maybe he needs something to enrich himself, like an electronics hobbyist kit for kids or a NintendoDS programming kit or a Lego Mindstorms robotics kit. The entire point of "play", scientifically speaking, is to hone the skills necessary for the real world.

Maybe you should get him a Santa.
Give him a wish that you will fulfill him in another 10 years down the road. Of course, advice him that you will try your best to fulfill with all your heart.
Maybe you will find a different side of him.

I bet he doesn't have an abacus or a slide rule. What a great way to revert back to antiquated way to make calculations.

How about a gift certificate for a new game from a game store in his area. (or a basketball/football to get him outside! :-)
