Because every country wants to be a super power. Because there is greed, because some people only have themselves in mind, and so on and so on

There is no single answer to this desperately important question. Various factors apply in various situations. Among possible causes are:
a. Greed ( which can be linked to material need)
b. Pride, or a desire for "glory" in political leaders, and sometimes populations
c. Lust for power over others
d. A desire to impose political or religious beliefs on those considered benighted fools or infidels.
e. A search for "security" against perceived threats
As I say, there is no single cause, but against the background of the above, the willingness of young people, especially young men, to fight and compete, does not help the cause of peace. "Peace" on this planet will not exist until there is a peacemaking force - but that begs the question of who will control it, and how will peace be defined. In the Roman Empire - itself a global power in its day - it was said that faced with a rebellious region they "made a desolation and called it peace" - often with long term beneficial results. Even if a respected and accepted global authority existed there would still be the problem of violence connected with crime. I do not think that the situation is hopeless - but to eliminate major war will require more wisdom than most politicians show in this age. Certainly allowing criminal gangs to rule over and massacre populations with genocidal policies is no long-term solution.
