I have two fish, a goldfish and an algae- eater. I want to name them but I don't know if they are boys or girls. Is there anything that you can do to tell if they are male or female?

well as for goldfish its easy... goldfish males mature around 6months and display these pimple like spots on the gill covers and along the first ray of the pectoral fins... males are more slender then the more rounder female... although fancy goldfish are always round... lol so if the fish is over a year and you don't see the pimples on the gill covers or front fins then its a girl... As for the algae eater hmmmm I'll have to reference my fish books... either way give it a uni gender name then HAHAHA...

I'm not sure about the algae eater since there are tons of types but I hope that it is compatible with goldfish since some are not and actually like to eat their slime coat and can kill them. But to sex a goldfish check out this site, http://www.bristol-aquarists.org.uk/goldfish/info/sexing-fs.htm

Take them out of the tank, and lick their bellies.
