I have a generic computer and am using Win XP Home. The P4VXASD2 motherboard manual makes mention of both USB1 and USB2. I just received an HP Photosmart printer. The manual states that it connects to the computer using a USB2 cable. Does that mean that all I need is a USB2 cable for this printer to work or is it more involved. I mean do I have to use the correct connector on the computer or enable USB2 use? As you can tell, I am not that computer knowledgeable. I can print pictures using the camera memory card only, but I would like to print edited images from my computer also. I hope someone can understand my question. My e-mail is ajmujica@verizon.net.

Actually, you can use any USB cable to connect your printer to your computer. A USB2 cable has a faster connection than USB1, so preferably, you'd want a USB2 cable. It doesn't matter which cable cable you use as long as it is a USB cable. The "socket" for both USB1 and USB2 is the same, the computer detects which version of cable you're using automatically.

Theoretically speaking if you have USB2 ports (which are USB1 backward compatible) Most modern mainboards ARE USB2 equipped nowadays.

A printer should not really care that much about USB1 or USB2 cable, as a printer doesn't receive THAT much info from the computer to print. As long as you use a USB2 cable (and no non-USB2 hub/cable in between) you should get full throughput.

the documentation was stating that the motherboard supports USB 2.0 and has 2 USB headers on it named, USB1 & USB2. you can use both USB 2.0 and USB 1.1 devices with these connections.

if the motheroboard supports USB 2.0 then ALL the USB headers will support that and they are backwards compatible with USB 1.1.

they would not reduce the functionality of a USB header by installing one that supports and older standard only...learn to properly read technical documents if you are going to answer questions...

Yes, a USB cable will allow you to connect the printer.
