I asked one time but there was a good answer. This is calculus related to physical problem. The question is RIGHT, I did check before posting.

the right answer is 19.55 feet/s^2 ( in the back of the text book)

Using the formula v = at and solving for a I get 80/6 = 13.33 miles/hour-second

That's the acceleration - however I'll bet you want some other units. You did not specify.

Sorry just saw that you are looking for feet/sec^2. so 13.333 * 5280 / 3600 = 19.555 ft/sec^2

v = u + at considering that u = 0 v = 80 mph t = 6 s a = ? 80 mph= a x 6 80 mph = 80/ 60 x 60 miles in line with 2d and 80 miles = 422400 feet now 422400 /3600 = 6a 4224/36 = 6a 117.3333 = 6a a = 117.333/6 for this reason a = 19.fifty 5 feet / 2d sq.

Assuming constant acceleration:
Using First law of kinematics,
v = u + a * t
v= 80mph
u=0mph
t=6 sec =6/3600 = (1/600) hr
a=?
a=(v-u)/t = 80/(1/600) = 80*600 miles/hr^2 = 48000miles/hr^2

5280 ft=1mile
1hr=3600 sec
Subtituting in answer
=(48000*5280)/(3600*3600)
=176/9 ft/sec^2

=19.556 ft/sec^2

(80-0)/6 = 18.33 miles/s^2

Convert to SI units for acceleration = 29.451 km/s^2

edit: also just noticed the request for specific units. Others have now answered. I'm an SI nazi I'm afraid.

80 miles per hour=80*1.47 ft/sec
=117.6 ft /sec
time taken=6 sec
so acceleration=117.6/6=19.55 ft/sec^2

a = (80-0)/6 [m/h.s]
=13.3 [mph.s] x (5280) x (1/3600)

=19.5 feet/s^2
