Food, shelter and clothing are obvious. Sports or music lessons are luxuries. Not all parents can afford them. Just because your child doesn't have them, it doesn't make you a bad parent. I see a few answers listed here, but the most important one is not listed. It costs nothing and it is the best thing you can give your child. A child needs to be raised according to bible standards. This is a process which starts from birth. See the scripture at Proverbs 22:6, "Train up a boy according to the way for him; even when he grows old he will not turn aside from it." Discipline is a must. I am not talking about slapping the child silly. I would suggest looking up the definition of 'discipline'. Webster's dictionary defines it as: (4) "Training that corrects, molds, or perfects the mental faculties or moral character." At times, however, spanking is needed. See the scripture at Proverbs 22:15: "Foolishness is tied up with the heart of a boy; the rod of discipline is what will remove it far from him." In addition, parents should try to provide a safe environment where children feel loved and wanted. Praise them regularly. Be a good listener. Take a break when anger flares. Set clear, consistent boundaries and limits. Adapt discipline to the needs of each child. Care for spiritual needs through regular study of God's Word. I think all the above practices will pay off well in the future.

Yes, it is a happy enviroment. Some people approach and try to extend their bad temper, trying to get some kind of revenge against the first one they come to, that could be fixed, if people would face and solve their problems in the best emotional way.
Some people ho had nothing to do with other;s problems may get hurt and that is not fair.
