5 days ago I popped my kneecap out of place (I think) when I was running up a hill. It was almost the worst pain I've ever felt. It was excruciating for about 5 min. and then a little less so. There was a little fluid but not too significant. At first if I just pressed on my patella, it hurt everywhere. I've been taking ibuprofen, aleve, using ice, etc. It doesn't feel better. I saw a dr. who told me basically to suck it up and in a month get a cortisone shot if it doesn't resolve. It hurts to walk and is painful both on the inside and outside of the knee (left). If I press on the inside (lower down), it's pretty painful. When I walk I can feel it kind of catch and can actually hear it crack/pop. It even hurts to sit. Bending down hurts as do stairs (up and down). Am I just being a baby? The day after this happened I almost had to pull over my car and vomit because of the pain. I don't know what's wrong. Help?

I just wanted to add that when I saw a dr. on Thurs. he asked me if I had had any x-rays. I said no but he didn't request any. He didn't visually inspect it but he did palpate it. He told me that he thought I had just bruised a bone and suggested that I give it a week and then start swimming as rehab. I don't want to bother anyone because I don't think it's an emergency, the pain is less severe than it was at first, and the 1st dr. I saw didn't think it was anything serious. The kneecap slid back by itself so I guess that's a plus and it's not swollen. I don't want to minimize it either, however. I don't even know how long it "should" hurt after this kind of incident.

You need to see an orthopedic doc for a full set of x-rays and proper treatment. Anytime the knee might be damaged the doc should at least order x-rays to be sure things are ok inside your knee. If you need a referal then get one Monday otherwise call a good ortho doc and get this checked out. You do not have to "suck up" pain from an injured knee.

You need to go see another doctor! Was it an ortho dr. you saw? I good ortho dr. would have at least ordered x-rays if not an MRI. I was doing physical therapy for my back when my right knee blew up..........to make a long story short the 1st ortho dr. i saw did x-rays and drained my knee with this LONG needle, they put some kind of deaden creme on it first and he drained it and the syringe had this BIG barrel that was full of this yellow fluid and then he administered a cortisone shot. It felt great but only lasted about 2 weeks. I went to another dr. who ordered an MRI and i had torn ligaments and ended up having minor surgery to repair the torn ligaments so that i can have a total hip replacement..............which i have to have in about 3 weeks!!!!!!!!!! GO TO ANOTHER DOCTOR!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

You might desire to determine the footwear you're dressed in. Go to a well shoe retailer wherein they may be able to placed you within the correct shoe. Your excellent shoe is probably not least expensive nor essentially the most luxurious. Not the footwear... do a part-mile hot up stroll at a well velocity earlier than your jogs. Don't begin out strolling instantly. After your jog, stretch the ones legs.

MAKE SURE YOU GO TO THE EMERGENCY ROOM OR HOSPITAL
You may have a small fracture in your knee, very serious because, normally when you walk, your leg and thigh bone rub against your knee right? now what if they are rubbing against a crack? OUCH! You need to stay in bed for at least 2 weeks, and not move your leg as much as possible, Go to walgreens and get a bandage wrap for it, dip it in hot water and rub a little olive oil on it, then wrap it around your knee, then STAY IN BED AND DO NOT MOVE IT OR THE CRACK WILL GET BIGGER!! THIS IS VERY SERIOUS!
get some x-rays and I hope you feel better

Please get a second opinion.
I had a doctor tell me the same thing about a less serious injury, so I wore a knee brace for a while. BUT, you're injury sounds like it really does need medical attention.
