Maybe your leads are not in properly or you need to uninstall and reinstall the software?
Have you turned the volume right down on the speakers by accident? Daft suggestion but sometimes the really obvious things can get forgotten!
Other than that, most IT people would tell you first to reboot your pc and see if it works then!
Good luck.

Possibly a bad sound card. When you unplug the speakers with them turned on do you hear a pop? You can also check in control panel and make sure that they aren't muted or that your type of speakers hasn't gotten changed. I have surround sound on this computer and it quit once and for some reason the speakers had gotten changed to desktop stereo which didn't work.

I had the same prob after doing a system restore. Assuming that all your hardware is sound, you could to a restore to factory settings. However, make sure you have backed up any work to floppy/CD, as this process will take your machine to the state it was in when you took it out of the box. Unplug all peripheralse and close down. Restart, press F11 repeatedly, and follow the commands. You will have to re-install anything you had (ie: Office; ISP; etc).

firstly, check your speakers, try it on other pc.
2nd, try using a headphones or any other speaker to check if it's working. if not, two things, either third party software or the driver of the soundcard itself. check on the settings of your sound, like the control panel or other sound or audio setting, check on the output options or something like that.
most likely it's just the setting. you must've accidentally changed something. so that's why.
hope this helps. it's really hard to tell because pcs got like a thousand third party drivers and software, like creative, realtek, etc.. they have different settings to manipulate your sound/audio.
cheers.
