'Should the UK leave the European Union - Yes or No?
How would you vote? (I would vote Yes - leave).

There is no provision in EU treaties for quitting the EU. The UK has never acted in violation of the treaties -- indeed of all member states it has been the most observant of EU law.

That said, Parliament is sovereign and could abrogate the European Communities Act 1972, however wildly improbable that is.

Ironically, the proposed European Constitution would have instituted a procedure to quit the EU. Two territories have, in fact, left: Greenland, by treaty; and St-Pierre & Miquelon by being reclassified from DOM to TOM (département to territoire d'outre mer).

The economic and legal implications of a state like the UK leaving are so immense that a referendum is unlikely. Too many factories have been built for the sole purpose of supplying other EU countries.

You should read the history of EFTA, founded by the UK to subvert the EC. It didn't work. Once de Gaulle, who distrusted the UK, left the scene, the UK did join the EC: still with a view to subverting it. But as time passed the UK became dependent upon it, and a firm supporter. The UK population, like yourself ill understanding how it works and resentful of a lot of its attributes (immigration, tax ...) would probably vote against it, and in favour of withdrawal. So no referendum will take place.

The Swiss narrowly voted down membership in 1992. They would not, today, come anywhere near voting in favour if the issue were presented again; but the Swiss Government does think the country will join eventually.

I'm afraid the constitution does not allow for us to leave unilaterally-
Still think we should hang filthy little p*oofs like Mandelson and it might get almost a bit of respectability as a European Union capable of competing with America on a level playing field!!

I would vote no. I like being able to move freely and look for work in another EU country. I also think that the E.U. does a lot to preserve our national identities rather than us getting sucked up and becoming even more Americanised.

Stop reading the Sun and the Daily Mail and buy yourself a real paper.

£sixty 9 billion a three hundred and sixty 5 days would do plenty to stability the books? i'd a lot extremely stay interior the european, yet get a huge rebate and agree that our Parliament is sovereign. in truth, i understand this does not artwork, yet when the united kingdom had a referendum and it got here out as "out", the authorities ought to apply it as leverage to get the rebate and the circumstances I basically reported. with out the united kingdom in it, the european Union would in all probability crumple, or if not wade through a huge disaster. We each from time to time do ourselves an injustice with how important we view our personal u . s . as being, yet interior the case of the european and its persevered existence, we are important certainly. the probability of england pulling out would have the profligates in Brussels bending over at each nook to attempt to maintain their superstate. in the interim, lets achieve the rewards of being interior the european (and that i well known they are distinct), at the same time as getting a huge lower price. good for anybody. nicely, except for the european, yet who extremely cares?

No.

We have an open boarder with Europe and 100s of other benefits, and right now if we leave Europe we will become an American state (if Blair had his way).

If I were to vote for leaving the UK and living in Europe my Vote would be YES.
