each of us in this world is only the thickness of a piece of paper from being that person we mostly ignore on the side of the road OR sleeping in a doorway. We only glorify money, greed and power and we **** on everything and everyone Else that doesn't conform to that creed. Try to image that each person you see there is the best teacher you every had or one of your grand parents and see how it makes you feel to see them... some of those people are in a bad way emotionally and mentally and desperate need help, others are just drifting and are doing so because they feel they have nothing to put down roots for or with while others are running away from some personal demons... they all deserve our attention and our help in whatever way possible ... to live in the richest, most powerful country in the world and have people hungry and alone on the streets while corporate assholes are getting 5 millions dollar bonuses sucks.. plain and simple it is pathetic and it sucks

There are too many homeless people, too many homeless families and I cannot believe, that in the greatest country in the world, we have so many people on the streets. Yes, I believe that it is a person's responsibility for their actions and to try to better themselves but nevertheless, we should help our fellow human beings and do not judge them for whatever they may have done or failed to do.

Our politicians (Democrats, Independents, and Republicans alike) promise the world every 2-4 years but deliver very little when the time comes to help out the country.

A lot more ( A LOT MORE) should be done to help the homeless. If Mother Theresa dedicated her life to serving the homeless in India and other countries, why can we not do the same here?

We will spend, without thinking, any amount of money on junk food but if a homeless person asks for assistance we pretend not to hear or say we don't have any change.

Do not forget those out on the streets, that could be you one day.

This is the writer who posted this question. I noticed i'm getting alot of the same answers out of each of you either you think its there own problem or you think they should be helped. It might of helped if I listed some things for you so here they are now,
over 60% of the homeles population that are now in this country are mothers and fathers with children 40 % of that are single mothers. Another facter of the needy is that over 50% of needy families are american citizens who do not speak much english. Now you would say what don't they just learn it they are in america they should learn the language. I know there are people willing to learn and some that are not but the ones that are who is going to teach them are you you say they can buy programs to learn this is what i'm telling you now. I am a journalist and a Photographer and have travled many places doing this. I have been to countries all around the world as well as all over this one and have study social gendes in each one. The other day I happened apon one of these dfamilies who should just learn english shecame over here with her children became a american citizen she just had another baby when she wasn't supposed to get pregnant . she had this baby 5 months after she conceived him needless to say he is in the hospital since the hospital is one state over she has to go see him . 6 months ago if you asked her things were well now there is not one present under her christmas tree and her new born baby she oly gets to see once every two weeks because she can't come up with the 18 dollars for the ticket since her job layed her off. how do you suppose families like that. who are trying everything as it is to survive buy a program and learn english. These are people that we look at every day true sometimes people get there selves in a rut i know quite a few that have i also kow quite a few that as much as some of you would say Run a bit of bad luck. All of us here are fortunate or unfortunate one way or the other some of us more so then other so of us less so. there is alot of mixed felling about this issue some do deserve what they get i agree with you ive tryesd to help quite a few but efore you decide that they next person you see on the street or at the salavation army bying christmas presents for there kids or even for instance the person sitting next to you on the bus is diffrent they areall there own person the woman on the bus might be the one i described to you or the guy on the street might have just let go after he lost his wife and only child to a drunk driver andhad no family around to support him or a motehr or fatheer or both just can't afford to buy the kids the bwest things so they give the best they can we shun peopple liek this in society but if it were you or your loved one would you do the same to them would you look away and not meet there eyes knowing there backgroud knowing what they have been through. If a homless person on the street ask you for a cigaretter or a drink or money i would not suggest giving it to them but if a homless person or family or even needy family ask you for nothing butt just wants for once to someone to see what brought him aor her there what they have been through if oyu have a extra coat or a extra sandwich or anythign you can have plenty more of at home remember you might be fortunate but think of the person you stand beside or walk bye or even glance at in the grocery store they have a life and it may not be as fortunate as yours who knows its up to you to determint ot decide if there life is as valuble as your own or one of oyur family mambers.next time you see someone whos donw at luck even a smile or a hello might be all they need for a little hope.

most of them are in their situation either because 1) they made a lot of bad decisions or 2) they arent willing to make an effort to help themselves. usually its a combination of both. the ones who are just plain "unluckly" are an exception rather than the normal. i dont have a problem with the government spending money on helping them through education or putting them to work, but welfare really pisses me off. taxpayers shouldnt have to pay for the mistakes and laziness of others.

and dont give me a sob story about how "they just had a little bad luck." thats what i use to think when i was younger, but ive worked with a lot of people on government assistance and have since found the majority of them seem to be bitchy assholes who dont help themselves and think the world should be given to them on a silver platter and frankly dont deserve and of the aid they get. its not that hard to make it in america if you put forth some effort. i dont care if they got dealt a bad card or two, its how you respond to bad card that makes you who you are. ive gotten dealt bad cards before too and when i get one now i dont ***** and whine about it and wonder why me, i go do something and play my good cards.

now people in third world countries are different, there is little they can do about their situation and they do deserve a little help

There should be more programs to help educate and train homeless people

its mixed, i mean i do feel bad for the homeless if they truly got screwed over but those who use our charity and just buy more drugs and alcohol i have no sympathy for, if you really want to get back on your feet then you will do anything you can to get back to a stable financial state but most just want everyone to feel sorry for them
