Toshiba Function Keys Not Working

I had this problem after running msconfig and disabling many of the start-up programs. I did this to speed up the boot-up on a Toshiba Satellite 5205 laptop.
To get the Fn-key working again I enabled those start-up programs that seemed relevant to Toshiba. You probably arrived at your problem from a different route, but maybe my solution will give you a clue on fixing your situation. In any case, best of luck.

It sounds like the upgrade was not right for your laptop. If there are older versions of the software that you upgraded on Toshiba's website you might try those. Or if you upgraded some software maybe you need to upgrade the BIOS also to match?

Hi
The FN bar that you mean is called „Flash Cards“. They appear if you press FN key or an FN key combination like FN+F8.

The Flash Cards are controlled by Value Added Package and Flash Cards Support Utility. I would recommend reinstalling both tools…
That means remove both tools, restart your notebook and start with installation of VAP and then Flash Cards Support Utility.

You can download both tools here:

on the Toshiba website for your country, find the product support email address and ask them about this. i guess is that they'll offer to repair the keyboard -- and that it won't be covered under warranty.

If your computer is not working properly while you are working on it, it could be a problem with device drivers, hardware or software.
