need to know about mpeg2?

I'm wanting to buy a camcorder that records video in mpeg2 format. I read where mpeg4 is the best to upload videos online but mpeg2 is the best for making dvds. So if I get the mpeg2 will I still be able to upload it online, like to youtube, myspace video etc?
