Some apps, most notoriously Microsoft Office, refuse to honor your default browser preference and will only open hyperlinks in IE.

There's probably a way around that by hacking your registry, but I wouldn't recommend it.

Select Mozilla Firefox as the default browser. You can do that from right inside Firefox. Go to Tools > Options. And you will see that option there.

Go into tools, options, main then click on Check Now to see if it is your default browser. If that doesn't work click,Start,Control Panel,Add/Remove Programs,Set Program Defaults. Check to make sure Firefox is your default there as well.

At the top of the browser window, select tools, option, then in the default browser section, click on Check Now. If it isn't the default browser you will get the option to make it so by clicking on yes. You can see step-by-step instructions at http://www.comcast.net/help/faq/index.jsp?faq=BrowserFirefox18082
