well, my choice is NOD32...it is great in the sens it detects most of the viruses..and has a higher rating then a lot of other common anti virus softwares..also the other advantage is that it consumes a very low amount of system memory, hence does not slow the pc...

For a while I liked Symantec's Norton Anti-Virus but then I had a billing problem and it took forever to resolve. So I suppose the program itself worked alright but I don't really like the way their customer service was set up so I switched to Kaspersky Labs anti-virus for a paid program. I personally can't stand McAfee.
For a free scanner, AVG works just fine.

AVG. The free edition is available from http://free.grisoft.com.
Technically speaking I think NOD32 is a better program, but I continue to recommend AVG to individuals as it is free. I've worked on quite a few peoples computers in the past and I've noticed that most of them use their free year of McAffee or Symantec (or they go out and by it), and then never pay to have the subscription renewed so they end up using 5 year old virus signatures which do them no good at all. At least with the free software theres no excuse not to update it.

Well i agree with a couple of the people and say NOD32 is pretty good and quite secure.
But i always come back to norton but i don't only use anti-virus i have the whole internet security which give you the anti-virus and firewall it even scans e-mails in and out.
As i said though NOD32 is good but i don't feel as much in control with it as a close third i would chose zone alarm even though it keeps pestering you

Personally, I like AOL AntiVirusShield. Don't let the name AOL scare you. AntiVirusShield is made by Kaspersky which is one of top-rated anti-virus vendors in the world.
In recent tests, the most popular free anti-virus, AVG, was only able to detect about 82% of a very large sample of viruses. On the other hand, AntiVirusShield was able to detect better than 99% in the same test.

AOL AntiVirusShield has excellent virus detection rates and is extremely light on using your computer resources. (6mb)
And it updates 15 to 20 times a day with new virus definitions, 7 days a week.
Free to anyone, AOL member or not from:

Persoanlly I'd recommend AVG or Avast - the latter is reckoned to be fractionally better - and they're free!
For spyware, try Ad-Aware - efficient and free too.
Wouldn't touch Norton with a bargepole, it's blocky, cumbersome and drags the system down. It's also a pain to get rid of.

This only applies to Microsoft Windows PCs. Linux PCs are unaffected by viruses.
Generally accepted as the worst is Norton Antivirus.
My personal best is Sophos.

The best antivirus is the one that works for you. Two of the best today are free, Avast and AVG. I haven't used AVG, but have had Avast for 3 years and only 1 virus which Avast caught and stopped.
