Hatshepsut was rulling after her husband, Thutmose II as a regent , Thutmose III but by the time that he became of age she did not step down. She wanted to rule all of Egypt which made her son very, and extremely angered. Some say that Thutmose III had her secretly killed or that she died.. no one realy knows for sure since most of the murels and statues of Hatshepsut was destroyed or her name simply writen out of history. One version has her reigning as 21 years and 9months while two others suggest a full 22 years. She could have assumed reign at 1512 bc or as late as 1479bc but they say she may have reigned from 1479bc-1458bc but there is no proof

Also, she was the stepmother/aunt of Thutmose III, Hatshepsut modeled herself after Sobekneferu, the last monach of the twelfth Dynasty who ruled in her own right. Hatshepsut even had herself crowned pharaoh around 1473bc and took the throne as Maatkare
