I enjoy Detroit. Still a great city and much to do here. It has all 4 seasons and is beautiful in the winter. To many people cut it down and I feel sorry that they don't realize how great Detroit is and the friendliness of the people here.
good luck.

Detroit has snow, but no money for snow removal. The school system is near bankruptcy. The auto industry is drying up. Unemployment is high. Gas is higher than some other places(I payed $2.30 yesterday). You can't get around Detroit in the summertime because of road construction. And the roads that aren't fixed yet will knock out your alignment and shake parts off your auto. Crime is high. Police are cynical, and I don't blame them given the dregs of humanity that they have to work with. I hope this answers your question about Detroit. I don't know anything about Atlanta, sorry.

Winter sucks in Detroit. Summer sucks in Atlanta. But no matter what time of year it is, it is much easier to drive in Detroit than Atlanta.

Since I have lived in both Detroit and currently living in Atlanta, I have experienced both cities. I would say that Detroit is in worst shape than Atlanta and here are some of my reasons why;

First, the economy is on a steep decline because Detroit highly relies on the automotive industry which has taken a hit because American Automobiles have to compete with foreign auto companies.

Second, growth in Detroit and the Metropolitan Detroit Area has been on a steep decline since the 2000 Census. Reasons people leave to go elsewhere are because of the economy, the weather, and not enough entertainment available. In Atlanta, the population in Atlanta and the Metropolitan Atlanta Area is growing rapidly. Ever since Atlanta held the 1996 Summer Olympic Games, Atlanta has grown dramatically and Atlanta and the Metropolitan Atlanta area has over 5 Million People and growing and reasons Atlanta is growing is because of its strong economy, it world class atmosphere, and the weather.

Third, entertainment in Detroit is weak compared to Atlanta. If you go to a major book store, there is not travel books published just on Detroit from Fodor’s or Frommers? Because there is not enough to do in just the city of Detroit. There are travel books published about Atlanta you can purchase at bookstores in Detroit but you cannot by travel books published about Detroit at bookstores in Atlanta.

Fourth, the city government is operated differently. In Detroit, the government is often corrupt and lazy and does not really care about your concerns about changing Detroit and Detroit always talks about moving forward but the city will NEVER move forward until the corruption is eliminated. The city government of Atlanta is productive and makes progress and the city is moving forward everyday. Atlanta opened the Georgia Aquarium last year, is in the process of building a Civil Rights Museum, and the city government actually listens to your suggestion and complaints and takes them into strong considerations for improving Atlanta.

Finally, Detroit relies heavily on the State of Michigan for assistance while the Atlanta does not rely very heavily on the State of Georgia for help. The State of Michigan is usually always bailing Detroit out when they have financial hardship and Detroit would go out of business if it was not for the State of Michigan while Atlanta is moving forward with progress and although Atlanta is the state capital of Georgia, Atlanta acts independently and does not rely do much on the State of Georgia for assistance.

I hope my answer helps answer your questions.

Detroit, by far, is the worst city in America to live in, much less comparing it to Atlanta. If you move, plan on moving to the suburbs. At least you'll have a chance to live. They'll kill you in Detroit.
