Don't ruin your life by making such a drastic change with no foundational plan. That is how people end up homeless. Explore the area you'd like to live in, then use Yahoo! Interactive maps to find businesses where you might be qualified to work. Then go to those businesses websites to see if they are hiring. Contact Randstad, an excellent temp and permanent job recruitment service with several offices in Atlanta and many other cities. If you really want to do this, take your time and do it right. Not half @$****. Aren't you worth a good plan?

you will make friends overtime. but for right now you are alone. planning is key when it comes to moving, you should look as to see what places there are to live. Go online to seek newspapers from around the area, that way you get the info from the locals.
Also planning for a job is key, try to apply online - make a trip if you have to, the key is that the job starts as soon as you move down there.

Atlanta is pretty cool except for the traffic. Its a very diverse place. hard to give you advice on just what you've stated.
