There's one in Malaysia. And I bet there's one in South Africa. If I'm not mistaken, there's also one in the States... Why Georgetown? Is it a Colonial custom?

There are many Georgetowns in the U.S.A. maybe becasue George Washington was the first president and also known as the "Father of the Country".

After we become a hispanic majority, we should have a vote and change all these names to "Jorge- town"

it is not not exactly a colonial custom but that has a lot to with it. as probably would have guessed a lot places are named georgetown as tribute to the king during the colonial era. but some places could have been named that probably by the town founder

Since English people was colonialist and since a lot of king were named George, it is normal that a great number of towns were named George town

Maussy is closest to it.

The British colonized more of the World than any other group of people. They had one or more of the King Georges during their exploratory periods - so they honoured their Kings by naming new settlements after him/them.

because george is a common christian name and also because of king george.
