The best way is to hire a qualified mason. If you want to DIY, make sure you remove the damaged mortar and clean all the joints. Ask at the local building supply house what type of mortar to use and follow the directions diligently. Apply.

Scrape all the joints thoroughly , apply a coat of binding chemical ,and re-point them using cement motor and the surface should be water cured at least for a week to gain strength.
