I have a concrete step on the front of my house. Paint has been spilt on it and nitromoors used to try to clean it up with the result it is blotchy and untidy looking. It is just plain grey concrete and the only thing I can find is concrete stain for brown concrete. Any fairly easy methods to bring it back to colour?

Please don't listen to those answers!!! Especially mixing portland and pouring over it!
Go to the hardawre store and buy a gallon of Muriatic Acid. It's cheap. Mix it with a ratio of about one cup to five gallons of water (regardless what it says on container). Using a stiff bristled brush -preferably witha long handle - scrub the surface. Rinse well. You may need to repeat this process a few times, but it is the only way to restore the color in concrete. Remember that it is acid! It will kill off any plants around the cleaning area, so be carefull. Also, use thick rubber gloves and proper eye protection.
Good Luck!

muratic acid will eat away at the concrete allowing the under layers to be exposed giving it a new look just make sure you wet the concrete well before applying the mix of acid and water else the concrete will soak up the mix and make it very hard to wash back out once you have soaked it well mix the acid with water 50% and then apply using a wire brush and then scrub like you never scurbbed before when your done rinse really well and viola a new step.

If you don't fancy acids or sandblasting, consider workshop/garage floor paint. It's made for concrete, and I think it comes in red, gray and sand colours. Machine Mart (branches all over) do a mid-grey one, at about £8 for 2.5 litres, which would leave enough to smarten up the pavement, too!
Getting your step dry before painting it might be a problem, though.
