A synchronization is when the phone is checking itself against some other device or standard, and "matching" up. If it's simply syncing when you're moving around, it's probably syncing to a local tower as you move from place to place.

Sync refers to synchronising your phone & pc. Contacts etc are synchronised so you have same info on both. It saves you having to download/upload etc

i have a palm treo they call it hotsync... its a way to connect your phone to your computer or any other device to store your contacts and stuff like that
