i accidentally dropped my goldfish in the dishwasher whilst cleaning his bowl and turned him into jelly. What do i tell the kids ?

You dropped the fish... forgot there was supposed to be a fish somewhere...were also loading dishes at the same time and then closed the dishwashed door and selcted the cycle? I'd say learn new water changing techniques and teach them to your kid. You can learn together. It will be fun.

That it was sick and you took it to the vet, then get a new one and while you are there, get a tank and actually learn how to look after your pet, a goldfish should never have been near the sink in the first place!!
Otherwise dont get another at all, and get you kids another pet that you wont accidently kill!!

Oh no!
I guess you have 3 options,
A) you could tell them the truth and apologise profusely, and take them to choose a new fish,
B) you could try to replace the fish before they notice,
C) you could make up an outrageous lie to cover your tracks, maybe something like:
the cat did it
he's gone to help Santa in his workshop in the fish department,
he begged you to set him free so you did.
Personally, I think I would go with option A and tell them the truth, then let them choose a new one. They'll forgive you I'm sure!

so let me get this right you either left water in and the fish and forgot to take them out
or
you accidentally knocked the fish in without noticing that the glass where he was was empty and all over the and then you closed the door

Well you can either face up and tell em the truth, gently of course.
OR if your kids are like mine race to a pet shop as soon as possible and get another one. Some secrets are worth having.

Tell them that your goldfish was called home by his parents for the Christmas, & that he will be back after the new year (then you can buy a new fish), if they say that he looks different, you can say that he a makeover while he was on holiday. : )
