'84 oldsmobile heater & rear defroster not working.

they started working only sparaticaly for a time then they just stopped working what could be the cause?

It could be the heater core. This is a small radiator-type device that uses heat from the engine to blow warm air into the interior of the car. If it's blocked the engine's coolant won't circulate through it.

Not sure on if you mean the air isn't blowing or if you don't have heat blowing but if you want better results from real techs I am the owner of

its a relay lower than the hood an the fender nicely with the help of the hinge on the passengers area.basically save on with the cord to the ac and blower motor would nicely be your fusible link and also you'll need the diagram for that from the library(Chilton automobile guide)

do you mean that the air doesn't blow? it's the fan motor. if the fan blows only on high ti would be the relay. but u describe a bad fan motor if u r referring to the air.
