When getting estimates, you must compare apples to apples. Make sure each estimate covers the same items to be painted, repaired, etc. Make sure paint quality is comparable (national brand vs. local hardware brand). Ask for insurance and references. Note that no one will give a poor reference so be cautious. Ask to see other jobs this person has done and of course, reputation is key. Hope this helps. Good Luck.

Probably not a professional person or you would not get a free estimate. SO..does this person have a history of being an art connoisseur? does this person deal in buying and selling art?
Is this person up to date with todays market. Everything is only worth what another person is willing to pay no matter what appraisals are so keep that in mind.
See in the library if the artist is listed like in Davenport.
Go on line and search for the artist name yourself.
Today you can do a lot of this on line.

Any time you have strangers in your home doing a service for you check with the Better Business Bureau to see if there are any complaints about the company. Ask the company what their policy is on theft and if background checks have been done for each of their employees. Ask what will be done if you are not satisfied. Will they come back on their own dime? Also, ask how long they have been in business and ask for referrals. Satisfied customers that they have had in the past should be more than happy to talk to you.

Word of mouth- ask neighbors or local business owners. I have never advertised, my customers do that for me. NEVER pay anyone up-front, he who has the money also has the power.
