its thought to have risen against parasitism
because the first organisms were asexual, the only way it could fight off parasites was with the random mutations, but that is incredibly difficult because most mutations are detrimental..so to increase the genetic variation and to stay "ahead" of the parasites, sexual reprodcution came about
