My speedometer will sometimes stick at one speed for a second, then jump 5 or 10 mph. I dont think it has a speedo-"cable" i think its electric...not sure. 1989 Thunderbird. Also, if this part is going bad, will it mess with the shift patterns of the transmission?

first of all, u most likely have cruise control, right? if so then check under the hood at the throttle cable and follow back to the cruise gear box.u will find that there is a cable from the tranny to the gear box and then a cable to the dash. now the problem will be here. does ur cruise work?if so then the speed sensor is there and will have the cable going thru it.but my guess is that the cruise is the problem. good luck
