That statistic refers to the first two weeks of pregnancy, before you even get to the point of missing a period and knowing you are pregnant.
After that point 80% of all pregnacies go to full term. I know its a very worrying time when you first discover you are pregnant but try not to get yourself too worked up and relax and enjoy your pregnancy. Maybe it's easier said than done, but you can safely flip around your statistic and know that the miscarriage risk is far, far less than you have been dwelling on.
Good luck with your pregnancy and I hope you enjoy a happy healthy baby in the next 9 months-ish.
Karma.

There are a few doctors who think that virtually every woman miscarries at least once in her life, but the highest statistic I've seen bandied about is 50%.
There really aren't any reliable statistics -- so many of those very early miscarriages seem to just be periods for the women involved, who, obviously, don't report them (and to where they would be reported is another story -- nowhere central, really); most have no idea they were pregnant. I've also heard 5% as the rate of miscarriage in a first pregnancy. You can Google miscarriage statistics 'until the cows come home' and find quite the wealth of unmatching stats.
So -- given that you already know, that puts you into a somewhat more favourable category, per-cent-wise, if that makes sense. Those extremely high odds take into account the miscarriages that few people would even notice (and I have little idea of how they try to estimate those).
That said, it's still not widely discussed or out in the open, hence you and a lot of people here not having heard much of it from people you know. There's no guarantee that even a very close friend would tell you about a miscarriage; for some people, it's an intensely private bit of misery.
If you're not bleeding, try and relax; the odds are excellent that it's thanks to something like gas or "things stretching." See http://www.justmommies.com/articles/cramping_during_pregnancy.shtml

don't have self belief it. now and again i imagine that junk is made up only to make others scared or women which have miscarried attempting to rationalize it. Miscarriage only occurs. It had no longer some thing to do with the variety being pregnant. Its no longer a truth. Out of my friends and kin I actually understand one lady to have miscarried. some thing human beings (extremely some) all gave delivery to our first conceived newborn.

I read where is it half of all first pregnancies are not going to stick. It doesn't really mean miscarry it was referring to half the women who become technically pregnant will not even know it because it won't stick. For instance. Your period ends on the 1st and you get pregnant on the 8th however it doesn't fully implant therefore come the 26th or so when it's time for a period you will get one because you aren't pregnant. I read this on a pregnancy test site I will try to find it and repost it for you.

MY eldest sister first pregnancy is a miscarriage too. Perhaps it's because they are unaware of their pregnancy so they are not extra careful

that's not true.. the RH factor's one of the culprit of some miscarriages.. if a couple doesn't have the same RH factor, most likely the mother would have a hard time keep a child in her womb...
